Team Maria Running Weekend

Team Maria is a group of runners participating in the BAA Half Marathon on Sunday, October 7 and the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women on Monday, October 8. The Team will raise money for the Maria Griffin Drury Pediatric Fund at Joslin Diabetes Center. A note from Maria's parents:

Maria Griffin Drury was a truly wonderful little girl who will always be remembered by everyone who knew her. She had a loving personality, a great sense of humor and the most beautiful smile you've ever seen. She was a first-grader who loved school and who brightened the day of everyone she met.

Maria was blessed with many gifts, but sadly, good health was not one of them. She died on December 27, 2000 just a month after her seventh birthday. She touched a lot of people in her short life, and those who knew her have fond memories and stories to tell.

When she died, Maria's family and friends established a permanent, endowed fund at the Joslin Diabetes Center in her honor. The Maria Griffin Drury Pediatric Fund supports Joslin's Pediatric Unit, directed by her doctor and friend, Dr. Lori Laffel. We feel this is a wonderful way to keep Maria's memory alive while supporting Lori's work in the field of type 1 diabetes.
